Ashley Mayer-Thibault

Doctoral student in sociology and co-founder of the Judéité(s) collective, my thesis focuses on the fabric of legitimacy in French-speaking Judaism. By taking an interest in the social universe of those – rabbis, journalists, intellectuals, activists, etc. - which “produce” Jewishness(es), it is a question of understanding how “Jewish” credibility is organised, transformed or contested. By conducting research in three fields: in France and in the French-speaking Jewish communities of Quebec and Israel, this work also involves questioning the autonomy of the religious, cultural, intellectual or political sub-fields internal to the Jewish world.
